Trudeau Moves to Freeze Buying, Selling Guns in Canada

TORONTO- In a move that causes outrage for gun owners on both sides of the border, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the introduction of a freeze on the buying, selling, and importation of handguns into the country.

“We are capping the number of handguns in this country,” Trudeau said, reported the Associated Press. “It will be illegal to buy, sell, transfer, or import handguns anywhere in Canada.”

According to the AP, the bill would also create a new “red flag” law that would protect the identities of those who accuse the gun owner is a danger to themselves or others.

Additionally, rifle magazines must be permanently altered to only hold five rounds. The bill would ban sales of large-capacity magazines under the Criminal Code.

In a move similar to Democrats in the United States, the AP reported that Trudeau had long planned to enact stricter gun laws but announced it after the mass shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde.

“We need only look south of the border to know that if we do not take action firmly and rapidly it gets worse and worse and gets more difficult to counter,” Trudeau said, according to Reuters.

The AP reported that the legislation is expected to pass Parliament with enough votes from Trudeau’s Liberal Party and the leftist New Democrats. It is expected to be enacted this fall.

According to the AP, Trudeau’s Government already had plans to ban 1,500 military-style firearms and is offering a “mandatory buyback program” slated to begin at the end of the year.

In Canada, gun ownership is a privilege not a right,” Minister of Emergency Preparedness Bill Blair said, according to the AP. “This is a principal that differentiates ourselves from many other countries in the world, notably our colleagues and friends to the south. In Canada, guns are only intended to be used for hunting and sport purposes.

Trudeau said that while most Canadian gun owners are responsible, it is in the interest of safety that these measures need to be implemented.

We cannot let the gun debate become so polarized that nothing gets done. We cannot let that happen in our country. This is about freedom. People should be free to go to the supermarket, their school or their place of worship without fear.”

OUR TAKE

“War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.”

These words from George Orwell’s dystopian classic “1984” seem to be being used by Trudeau’s Government to press this evil and insidious piece of legislation.

The audacity to claim that they are stripping away freedom from their people in the name of freedom is laughable.

Trudeau and the anti-gun leftists in America’s government are all capitalizing on the shootings in Buffalo, NY and Uvalde, TX — using the opportunity to attack the Second Amendment, here.

Although not as extreme as the proposed Canadian legislation, the Federal Firearms Licensing Act offered by a group of senators under the leadership of Cory Booker (D-NJ) has much in common with it.

This is one of the reasons why gun owners need HOLD THE LINE until the midterms. Gun owners need to get involved to stop our slide towards the anti-gun radicalism of the likes of Trudeau.
