Veterans’ Firearm Rights Under Fire—Lawmakers Take Action

Veterans’ gun rights have been a target for years, especially those veterans who have someone acting as an appointed fiduciary.

Many veterans are afraid to ensure their personal health and safety are taken care of because they fear the Department of Veterans Affairs will turn over their information to the NICS system, and they will be prohibited from owning a firearm. Veterans with PTSD have had concerns for years getting help from the VA because they fear the VA will say they are unfit to defend themselves.

Senate Bill 478 would prohibit the VA from giving NICS personal information of a veteran based solely on the veteran having an appointed fiduciary. The VA would need to provide additional evidence.

Just like red flag gun confiscation orders, government agents are always looking for new ways to take firearms from gun owners.

The legislation has 18 sponsors in the Senate, and a House bill (H.R. 1041) has 63 co-sponsors. There are currently no Democrats supporting the bills.
