Chicago’s gang problem has long been a problem of the inner-city, but that is changing as the violence and crime have now spilled over into the suburbs.
Carjackings, burglaries, and murder are all but everyday life in the gang-infested areas of Chicago, especially in the south side of the Windy City. The citizens living in those areas are used to the criminal activity as they have been dealing with it for decades.
However, it is only in recent years that the suburbs are starting to see crime increase in their areas.
According to WGN 9, out of Chicago, the residents of the suburbs are also getting used to the violence. They interviewed a resident named Brian Varner, and here is what he said,
I wish I could say I had a sense of outrage; but I almost felt numb, like we’re getting used to it.”
Residents in these suburbs are now organizing and trying to fight back. But, unfortunately, many of them have witnessed carjackings themselves or been carjacked by the thugs who are now moving their operations out of the southside of Chicago.
The WGN 9 team had investigators pull the numbers for crime in five of the suburbs with a total of 37 deadly shootings compared to a total of 15 in 2019.
Of course, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is focused on “unvaccinated” citizens rather than the rampant crime in her city that is now spilling out into other cities that have no say over what happens in Chicago. She doesn’t want to focus on real problems killing people in the inner cities.
What would you do if you lived in one of these suburbs?
