California Governor Gavin Newsom is threatening to use the Texas anti-abortion law in a similar fashion against the 2nd Amendment.
Newsom’s outrage comes as the U.S. Supreme Court kicked back a case against the new law. The law allows citizens to bring civil suits against anyone who assists in an abortion procedure or performs the operation itself.
After the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on the Texas law, Newsom had this to say according to CNN,
If the most efficient way to keep these devastating weapons off our streets is to add the threat of private lawsuits, we should do just that.”
Newsom has already directed his staff to begin drafting legislation that would allow private citizens to go after someone who manufactures, sells, or distributes what he deems “assault weapons” or “ghost guns.” A citizen would also be able to obtain up to $10,000 in damages.
This anti-2nd Amendment idea is sure to spread across the country.
Of course, Newsom is too incompetent to develop this idea himself. No, this idiotic idea came from Alan Dershowitz.
In September, Dershowitz wrote an Op-Ed for The Hill titled, “How to mess with Texas’ anti-abortion bounty? Apply it to gun sales.”
At the time, Dershowitz said it was an “out of the box” proposal. However, gun owners knew that the radical left would most certainly use the idea.
In part, Dershowitz says in the Op-Ed:
Liberal, pro-gun-control states could apply the Texas bounty approach to gun control. New York or Illinois, for example, could declare that gun crime has gotten so serious that the private ownership of most handguns should be deterred. It would be unconstitutional for the state to authorize the criminal prosecution of those who facilitate constitutionally protected gun ownership. But the state could, instead, enact a gun-bounty civil law modeled on the Texas abortion law. It would empower any citizen to sue for $10,000 anyone who facilitates the sale or ownership of handguns.”
Well, it appears that Newsom has taken Dershowitz’s advice and is now drafting legislation in California to come after gun owners even more than he already has.
Gun owners will continue to find themselves fighting new and innovative ways the gun grabbers are coming after the 2nd Amendment. There is no rest, and there will never be rest from this fight.
We must continue to expose the plans of the gun control community and protect the one thing that stands in the way of our country going full communist.
