Sixty-Five Shot, Five Killed Over Weekend In Lightfoot’s Chicago

CHICAGO- Sixty-five people were shot, five fatally, last weekend as pro-gun control leftist Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago continues to spiral out of control.

One of the fatalities occurred due to a triple shooting at about 3:20 a.m. Sunday on the 3300 block of West Harrison Street on the West Side. ABC 7 Chicago reported that a dark-colored SUV rolled up to three people who were changing a tire. One of the occupants in the SUV exited the vehicle and opened fire.

A 30-year-old man was shot in the face and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Chicago Police Department. The two other victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds and were transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were in critical condition.

No arrests have been made in the case, ABC 7 Chicago reported.

A 37-year-old man was shot and killed as he tried to break up an argument at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the Washington Park neighborhood in the 5400 block of South Winchester Avenue. According to ABC 7 Chicago, the man was attempting to break up a dispute between another man and a 25-year-old woman when the man involved in the argument took out a gun and shot the 37-year-old man in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman in the argument was shot in the armpit and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where police said the victim’s condition was stabilized, ABC 7 Chicago reported.

Also among the dead was a 16-year-old boy shot in the abdomen at about 6 p.m. Sunday near a parking lot in the 5900 block of South Indiana Avenue. ABC 7 Chicago reported that the victim, Tyshawn D. Crawford, was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

OUR TAKE:

While her city continues to be plagued by criminal gun violence, Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s biggest project last week seemed to be the quixotic pursuit of keeping the beloved Chicago Bears from leaving the city for suburban Arlington Heights. The National Football League charter franchise purchased land with an eye on a possible new stadium.

Fox News reported that Lightfoot’s proposals to keep the team in town would cost anywhere between $900 million and $2.2 billion. The Bears reiterated a statement from earlier this month stating that Arlington Heights is the only location they are exploring new stadium development.

Anyone can tell by the plans and sketches that a significant amount of time went into how to keep the Bears in town, even though the team announced they weren’t staying. How much of that time and effort could the Lightfoot Administration have poured into how to make the streets of her city safer?

One thing that we maintain that she could do is to cut the bureaucratic red tape that hampers gun owners from purchasing firearms and being able to defend themselves on the streets of Chicago, which Lightfoot has let descend further into a warzone while she begs the Bears not to leave the city.
