Concealed Handgun Permits Explode Last Year

While the gun control crowd continues its assault on the 2nd Amendment, gun ownership is increasing rapidly.

Additionally, the rate of gun owners carrying a firearm is also increasing. According to a study by the Crime Prevention Research Center, the number of permits in 2020 grew by 10% from the previous year.

The CPRC study also states that since 2016 the number of permits has increased by almost 50%!

And despite the liberal talking point that gun ownership is a “white male thing,” the CPRC study shows that minorities and women are applying for permits at a rapid rate as well. Here is what the study said about women and concealed carry permits:

In 2021, women made up 28.3% of permit holders in the 14 states that provide data by gender, an increase from the 26.4% last year. Seven states had data from 2012 to 2020/2021, and permit numbers grew 108.7% faster for women than for men.”

With the police under pressure from across the country to “defund” and decrease the size of their departments, it’s no wonder more people are carrying.

In particular, the CPRC study says that minorities are seeing a massive increase in carry permits. With Democrats in large cities targeting police departments, minorities may be learning very quickly that the best way to defend themselves is by carrying a firearm for their protection.

Here is what the CPRC study says about the increase in carry permits by minorities:

From 2015 to 2020/2021, in the four states that provide data by race over that time period, the number of Asian people with permits increased 93.2% faster than the number of whites with permits. Blacks appear to be the group that has experienced the largest increase in permitted concealed carry, growing 135.7% faster than whites.”

Another important point in the story is that the number of Constitutional Carry states has been increasing. As a result, the number of people carrying is likely higher than the verifiable permit numbers.

Finally, the study discusses the New York case currently before the U.S. Supreme Court and if gun owners are victorious in that case, it’s possible that the remaining “May Issue” states could go away and a massive increase in carry permits could ensue.
